CDO MIS Guide: How to Share File and Folder Links

The CDO MIS allows you to quickly share files and folders stored on the Synology NAS with other users. When you create a shared link, you can share it with others through a link or QR code. Depending on the sharing settings, recipients may be able to access the shared content without having a DSM account.

How to Share a File or Folder Link

  1. Select the File or Folder

Navigate to the file or folder you want to share.

You can start the sharing process in either of the following ways:

Right-click the file or folder and select Share.
Select the file or folder, click the Action drop-down menu at the top, and select Share.
2. Configure the Link Settings

A sharing window will appear with several options for configuring the shared link.

You can use the available options to:

Copy link – Copy the sharing link and send it to the intended recipient.
Mail file link – Send the shared link by email.
Get QR Code – Generate a QR code that can be shared or scanned.
3. Enable Secure Sharing

For additional privacy, select Enable secure sharing.

You can then choose how the shared link should be protected:

Internal – DSM account login required
Share the link with specific DSM users or groups by selecting them from the Account drop-down list.

Note: The guest account and the users group cannot be selected for internal sharing.

Public – Password protection
Share the link with other people using a password-protected link. Enter a Password for the shared link to restrict access.

  1. Create or Update the Sharing Link

If you are creating the link for the first time, complete the required settings and create the shared link.

If a shared link has already been created for the selected file or folder, the Create New Sharing Link button will be available. Select it if you want to update the existing shared link.

Advanced Sharing Options

The CDO MIS sharing settings also allow you to control how long a link remains active and how many times it can be accessed.

Validity Period

Specify how long the shared link should remain valid.

Once the specified period has expired, the link will become invalid and can no longer be used to access the shared content.

Number of Accesses Allowed

Specify the maximum number of times the shared link can be accessed.

Once the link reaches the specified number of accesses, it will become invalid.

💡 Tip

Before sharing a link, review the security, validity period, and access limit settings to make sure the file or folder is being shared only with the intended users and for the required period.
